Frequently asked questions
How Triptakeo works, how we estimate costs, and what we do with your data.
How does Triptakeo work?
Tell us your total budget, how many days you have (3 to 30), whether one or two of you are travelling, where you're flying from, your comfort level and, if you know it, the month you want to go. Then pick up to four things that matter most to you, in order, from 13 options such as beaches, food, culture and safety.
We score all 96 of our destinations on those 13 dimensions, weight your picks by the order you ranked them, estimate the full trip cost from your airport, and show the best matches that fit your budget. If only a few fit, we also show trips just over budget and what you'd need to spend to open up more options.
How are prices estimated?
Each estimate is return economy flights plus the cost of being there: accommodation, food, local transport and activities, for the length of your trip and the number of travellers.
Flights are estimates, not live prices. From 23 popular departure airports, we blend recent real fares with our own fare model. From any other airport, we use our fare model, which estimates a fare from the route and the distance between the two airports.
Hotels and daily costs are based on traveller-reported spending and published hotel price averages. If you choose a month, we use peak or low-season prices for that month; if you don't, we use the average of the two.
Comfort level changes hotel and daily costs, never flights: Budget (simple hotels and guesthouses), Comfortable (good mid-range hotels, the default) or Luxury (premium hotels and experiences).
Why might prices differ from what I see when booking?
Our numbers are planning estimates, not quotes. Fares change daily and depend on your exact dates, airline and how early you book. Hotel rates move with demand and vary from one hotel to the next, while we use typical prices for each destination. Exchange rates also move, and we update ours periodically. Always check the final price on the booking site before you pay.
Is Triptakeo a booking site?
No. Triptakeo helps you decide where to go. We don't sell flights or hotels, take payments or hold reservations. When you're ready, a destination page links to partner sites such as Expedia and Booking.com, where you book directly and their terms apply.
How does Triptakeo make money?
Through affiliate links. If you click through from Triptakeo to a partner such as Expedia or Booking.com and make a booking, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Partner links are marked with an asterisk (*). Commissions don't affect which destinations we recommend: rankings come only from your budget and what you told us matters to you.
Do you store my searches or personal data?
We collect the search inputs you provide, such as your total budget, trip length, departure airport, travel month, number of travellers, comfort level and ranked lifestyle preferences; any feedback you choose to give, such as your answer to "Was this helpful?"; and your email address if you choose to subscribe to destination ideas or contact us. We use them to generate your recommendations, to improve the product and, only if you've opted in, to send occasional destination ideas by email.
We also use Google Analytics for basic usage data, such as pages visited, referrer, device type and approximate location derived from your IP address. Its cookies measure overall traffic; we don't use them to identify you personally. Search inputs, feedback and email addresses are stored on Supabase, our backend infrastructure provider, and sent over HTTPS. Trips you save with the heart button stay only in your browser, on your device.
You can ask to see, correct or delete any personal data we hold about you at any time by emailing triptakeo@gmail.com. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Which departure airports and currencies are supported?
You can fly from more than 3,000 airports worldwide. Start typing a city or airport code in "Flying from" and choose from the list.
Your budget and prices are in your departure airport's currency if it's one of these: Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars, US dollars, Canadian dollars, Singapore dollars, Hong Kong dollars, British pounds, euros, Japanese yen or Swiss francs. From anywhere else, prices are in US dollars.
