The Gili Islands are three small coral islands off the northwest coast of Lombok: Gili Trawangan, the liveliest, Gili Air, the in-between, and Gili Meno, the quietest. There are no cars or motorbikes, so you get around by bicycle, on foot or by horse cart. Green turtles feed in the shallows, and you can often snorkel with them straight off the beach.
Most of the bill is flights and the room. Flights to Lombok come to A$1,408 for two, and A$882 covers a comfortable bungalow or villa for the week. Food and day-to-day spending are the smaller share, at A$502. Allow a little extra for the boat across, from Lombok's Bangsal harbour or by fast boat from Bali.
