Why you'll love it

Hoi An is a riverside trading town on Vietnam's central coast, and its Ancient Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. It's one of Triptakeo's highest scorers for food and value, and a favourite for couples: lantern-lit streets, slow evenings by the river and a beach a short bike ride away.

The best time to visit Hoi An is February to July. February to May is warm and dry, ideal for walking the old town, and June and July are hotter but good beach weather. The heaviest rain falls in autumn.

The Ancient Town is best explored on foot in the early morning or evening. Cycle out through the rice fields to An Bang Beach, and leave time for a tailor fitting. Cao lau, a noodle dish found almost only in Hoi An, is the one to try.

Hoi An suits couples, food lovers and anyone wanting a slower, more cultural trip.
